Tasting Notes
Antonio Galloni 95
The 2023 L’Evangile is a very fine effort for a property that is mostly planted with young vines. Ample and exuberant, the 2023 races across the palate with succulent red/purplish fruit, blood orange, mint, pomegranate, mocha and dried flowers. Today the 2023 is still quite fruity. It will need the better part of a decade to develop aromatic complexity and help the tannins soften. This is a fine effort from the team led by Technical Director Juliette Couderc.

The 2023 L’Evangile has an outstanding nose with copious black fruit, blood orange, hints of espresso and Italian mixed herbs unfolding in the glass. Very precise, and the oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a keen line of acidity, harmonious and beautifully poised towards the finish that fans out with real panache. Wonderful. So great to see this Pomerol has its mojo back.

Wafting from the glass with deep aromas of dark berries, spices, licorice and petals, framed by a sweet patina of new oak, the 2023 L’Evangile is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a textural attack that segues into a supple, integrated core that’s framed by sweet, powdery tannins. It’s a blend of 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, checking in at 13.5% alcohol, that was harvested between September 4 and 28.

78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cask sample.Round, svelte and poised with tannins that give drive and length. Oak still needs to be absorbed but there s a gentle quality to the wine. (JL)

Mesmerizing aromas of blackberries, bark and hints of dark mushrooms, violets and chocolate. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are polished and very long, bright acidity and a long and vivid finish. Rather endless. 78% merlot, 21% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2029, but already a joy to taste.

Lovely, the is calm and collected, ripe but also really cool. Lovely texture, ample tannins but so well controlled that they fill the mouth but don’t overpower. Lovely styling here, generous but elegance, powerful and concentrated but delicately delivered. This will have a great life and is just so enjoyable. One of the best Pomerols. Great texture.
Anticipated maturity: 2034-2048
