The 2015 Il Caberlot opens with a blast of blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice and spice. Exotic and deep, with tremendous character, the 2015 delivers serious flavor intensity while remaining light on its feet for such a powerful wine. Made with the elusive Caberlot grape, the 2015 Il Caberlot (with only 3,100 Magnums produced) is a beautifully ripe, dense and rich expression from one of the most beautiful spots in Tuscany. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and undergo malolactic fermentation in barrique, before a 22-month aging period in small French oak (of which 75% is new). The wine is impeccably balanced and concentrated with dark, plummy fruit, spice, tar and savory tobacco. Caberlot is a distant relative of Cabernet, and you can tell as much as you contemplate the bouquet and full-bodied appearance of the mouthfeel of this warm vintage Tuscan red.
