Tasting Notes
Neal Martin 95
The 1989 Doisy-Daene has a refined bouquet with more delineation than the 1990, yellow plum, apricot and quince aromas, touches of praline and almond that emerge with time. Macadamia nuts emerge with time. The palate is very composed and more complex than the 1990, edgy and very saline, desiccated orange peel mingling with dried apricot and grapefruit, fanning our wonderfully towards the composed finish. Divine. Tasted at the vertical at Doisy-Daene.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2045

Fairly pale color. Spice and licorice on the nose; suggestion of botrytis, along with faint resiny and musty notes. Moderately viscous, with good weight and extract but modest real flavor intensity. The slightly musty quality follows through on the palate. Rather honeyed on the finish.

The 1989 exhibits plenty of honeyed ripe fruit, a more elegant personality, fine richness, chunkiness and depth, full body, and low acidity. It does not reveal the botrytis found in the 1990 or 1988. Last tasted 11/94
