Fantastic value Italian white
We’ve only been going for a few months, but we’re trying lots of new wines every week looking for great things to add to the list. Stefano Zoli’s debut white definitely fits that bill.
You may be more familiar with his work in reds – as Chiara Condello’s winemaker. In addition to his day job working for Chiara, he has a tiny vineyard (less than 1ha) set amongst the Appenine Mountains, in Marche. He’s working with 50 year old vines set in chalky soil, and with a huge temperature difference between day & night. This diurnal shift packs the wine with flavour, yet keeps a lovely acidity.
We bought a handful of cases to start, and both Kirsty & I liked it so much we went back and took everything that he had left. It’s a really crisp, delightful white full of vibrancy & tension – and no shortage of flavour. This is really lovely stuff, and well worth trying – it’s now become our ‘house’ white here at Delf Farm.Nobody has reviewed this, and it’s not surprising as he only makes 6,000 bottles a year. We’ve got his last 39 cases until he releases his 2021, and if you’re looking for a delicious, extremely well-priced white, this is absolutely for you. Only minimal treatments are used, and this is truly an artisanal bottling from a very talented winemaker.
