Domaine J-A Ferret is one of the most famous and prestigious estates in the Maconnais – and rightly so. The wines are exceptionally good – in many cases as good, or better than a lot of things you will find from much more hallowed appellations – but for significantly less of your hard earned cash!
The estate was acquired by Jadot in 2008, who very sensibly left them to their own devices, but with money available to invest & improve the winery. The current winemaker is Audrey Braccini , who has a painstaking attention to detail which shows in her wines. Neal Martin has just published a host of reviews on 2019 & 2020 in the Macon, and unsurprisingly, Ferret does remarkably well.
One of the top scoring wines in his report was their Pouilly Fuisse Les Perrieres, made from a small vineyard to the south of the famous Pouilly amphitheatre (pictured above). The vines were planted in 1972-1974, so are about to hit their 50th birthday. There’s a lovely richness here, but it’s counterbalanced by an almost saline element which provides freshness and balance. In short, it’s superb. From 2020 this site will become a Premier Cru in the new classification.
We’ve picked up stocks in both bottles & magnums – currently en route from the Domaine.
Arriving in January 2022.
