Charles Heidsieck is one of our favourite estates in Champagne. We have been working with them for years, and we’ve managed to get a big parcel of the current release, based on the 2016 vintage.
This release was praised very highly by jancisrobinson.com earlier in the year, scoring a whopping 18+/20, which puts it ahead of a lot of NV and even some vintage Champagnes… James Suckling has also just given it 94 pts.
Heidsieck’s Brut Reserve is unusual amongst NVs in that this 2016 base has a full 46% of reserve wine, the oldest of which goes back to 1996 (Chardonnay from Cramant)! The average age of the reserve wines is 10 years - this was laid in Heidsieck’s cellars in early 2017 and disgorged in January 2020.
This is drinking absolutely fantastically now, although you can happily hold it for the next 6-8 years with no issues whatsoever. A very solid choice indeed for a very fair price.
